Account Manager – Specification
Location: Auckland, with National Responsibility
The Opportunity
Are you an experienced Account Manager with a proven track record of 5+ years within the specification sector? APD is a New Zealand-owned, rapidly growing manufacturing company dedicated to “Doing Good From The Ground Up.”
We are seeking a high-calibre professional to join our team in a pivotal role that demands sharp analytical thinking and strategic influence. This position involves managing and expanding relationships within the Wastewater, Stormwater, and Hazardous Substances management industries. You will be instrumental in partnering with Architects, Engineers, Specifiers, and Consultants to drive unique project specifications and unlock new business potential.
Key Responsibilities
This role is designed for a strategic operator who can navigate complex project lifecycles and model professional excellence:
- Strategic Execution: Collaborate with the sales team to develop and execute a robust, data-driven specification strategy.
- Project Pipeline Generation: Proactively identify and pursue new projects requiring the specification of APD’s diverse product portfolio.
- Network Orchestration: Cultivate a high-level network of key contacts (engineers, architects, consultants) to maximize market share and profitability.
- Market & Regulatory Intelligence: Gather comprehensive market intelligence across New Zealand and maintain critical relationships with local and regional regulatory authorities.
- Strategy Implementation: Formulate and implement focused client strategies for key specification customers to strengthen APD’s market presence.
What You Will Bring
We are looking for a role model salesperson who possesses both the technical aptitude and the logical reasoning to solve complex challenges:
- Proven Sales Expertise: A successful track record (5+ years) working with specifiers, ideally within the construction or water industries.
- Critical Reasoning & Innovation: A capacity for innovative, solution-focused thinking and the ability to think outside the square when faced with technical hurdles.
- Executive Presence: Strong communication skills with the persistence and professionalism required to establish successful executive-level relationships.
- Analytical Approach: The ability to maintain a structured call cycle while remaining agile enough to change direction based on project data.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in CRM systems is essential. A tertiary qualification in a technical discipline or knowledge of NZ stormwater/wastewater regulations is a distinct advantage.
